The Library collaborates with the patrons towards acquiring well-balanced collections for teaching, learning and research. It also maintains qualified and dedicated staff, fostering a comfortable environment, conducive to research, study and reflection.
The Polytechnic Librarian roles include the following:
- Ensures the development of a balanced collection.
- Oversees services of the Library clientele
- Administers staff
- Prepares the Library budget
- Coordinates the affairs of all the Units in the Library.
- Ensures upgrading, improvement and continuous development of the library services.
Presently, the Polytechnic Librarian is working towards upgrading the Library services by automating it in line with the modern trends and with a view to delivering prompt and efficient services.
Library Patrons will have the opportunity to access books and other Library materials available in the Polytechnic Libraries 24/7. This has been made possible with the introduction of Koha Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) which is Internet compliant. Moreover, the Library has recently subscribed to large dedicated bandwith internet facility which is made available to all Library users.
Realizing that the reading culture is fast dying in the society and especially among the students, the Polytechnic Library is making provision for a standard resource centre which will be fully automated with more than 50 Internet-ready computer systems and other self training instructional software packages which will assist both staff and students in the area of teaching, learning and research.
